2024 Autumn Gales Mid Summer Update -REGISTRATION NOW OPEN
Hello Autumn Galers!
Wow! Hard to believe we are in early August already!
Hope you all are enjoying summer conditions and getting a lot of paddling in to stay cool.
The 2024 registration form and payment links have been updated on the website. Please see the Registration/Contact Info page to sign up. For the registration form, you'll just need to 'right click' on it and select either 'save as' or print.
A name change you'll see on the website is British Canoeing is now known as Paddle UK. British Canoeing made this change to be more inclusive of the various forms of paddle sports. The trainings/assessments are still the same and we'll be offering Sea Kayak Leader and Advance Sea Kayak Leader trainings and assessments.
We've switched things around a little bit this year to take advantage of the spring tides. In past years, we held the trainings & assessments after the main event. This year, they are prior to the main event. The main event dates are Friday Nov 1st - Sunday Nov 3rd. And the Paddle UK trainings/assessments will be Tuesday Oct 29th - Thursday Oct 31st.
Regarding the coaching roster, we're still finalizing and there'll be some familiar and new faces coming from across the pond. The familiar ones include Nigel Dennis, Eila Wilkinson, Mirco Goldhausen, and Caoimhe Conner. After a few years hiatus, Axel from the Netherlands is signed on and Magnus from Iceland is also coming this year. The new faces are a young couple from Scotland who have done some amazing journeys - Fi and James.
Thanks for your patience in getting the registration page and links going.
Enjoy the rest of your summer, keep that paddling vibe going and hope you see you at the Autumn Gales!
Cheers,
Greg & Paula

What is the Autumn Gales?
The Autumn Gales is in its second decade of being the premier rough water event on the East Coast and is held in one of the few areas in the U.S. that has tidal currents worthy of holding British Canoeing's Advance Sea Kayak Leader Awards. Fisher's Island Sound is an amazing location and we strive to create unique experiences to learn and gain experience with rough water paddling. The Autumn Gales event runs out of Stonington Borough, Connecticut and uses the New England Science & Sailing waterfront facility.
Our high level coaches and rough water guides create an environment where paddler's can test their comfort zone, gain confidence and continue their skills growth and seamanship. We pride ourselves on a low coach/guide to participation ratio that allows for a lot of individualized coaching. The event is geared towards a variety of paddlers - those that have a solid foundation on flat water and have experienced some bouncy water to those looking to hone their skills in the bigger stuff.
Come be a part of a fun community and sub-culture of rough water paddlers that are empowering to be around - sharing knowledge, exploring and building confidence.
